IDEA 2008 is a series of events focusing on technology and education to be held in Melbourne on 12 & 13 November 2008.
Location

The Melbourne Convention Centre is part of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Complex and is located in the central business district of Melbourne.

The IDEA series of events is taking place at the Convention Centre cnr Spencer and Flinders Streets (adjacent to the World Trade Centre).
Purpose

IDEA 2008 events will:

* provide a national, cross-sectoral forum for discussing innovation and technology in education
* provide a showcase for Australian projects focused on technology in education
* share intelligence on emerging technologies within education and supporting sectors that will impact education
* foster alliances and communities of practice around technologies used by the Australian education community.

IDEA 2008 is a series of events catering to a variety of audiences across two days:

IDEA Lab - Interoperability Workshop
Morning of 12 November 2008
IDEA Lab is a series of workshops aimed at education infrastructure implementers, providing updates on technical developments in interoperability. This year's event will provide an update on recent developments relevant to the Australian Education community.

Technology in Education Open Forum
Afternoon of 12 November 2008 and all day 13 November 2008
This one and a half day open forum will focus on enabling technologies and infrastructure to forge a digital future and act as agents for positive change. It is aimed at policy makers and implementers responsible for education technology and vendors wishing to integrate their services into education infrastructure.

IMS GLC Learning Impact Award Australian Regional Finals
Showcase and judging: Afternoon of 12 November 2008
Awards ceremony: Afternoon of 13 November 2008
The Technology in Education Open Forum will include a showcase and judging of the Australian Regional Finals of the IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact awards. The Learning Impact Awards and Recognition Program recognizes outstanding applications of technology that address the most significant challenges facing the education community. The awards are unique for their recognition of the use of technology in context. The top Australian finalists will receive support to attend the international IMS GLC Learning Impact Awards in Barcelona in 2009.
