There are many English classes starting in July which will help with job skills:

Werribee Community Centre - Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education & Care)

Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education & Care) CHC50908(Werribee Community Centre)

This accredited qualification would suit:

•     People who have Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent

•     Child care workers who want to advance their career

•     Those wanting a combination of classroom study and work placement

Young Women’s Leadership Project

The ‘Young Women…Shaping Our Future’ project will be a two day training course offered for Brimbank young women (15-30 years old). The aim of this course is for participants to learn leadership skills, share ideas and establish networks. The course will cover six different leadership modules including:

• what is good leadership,
• goal setting,
• communication and influencing skills,
• dealing with conflict,
• building trust
• facilitating decision making

Biggest Morning Tea

Duke Street Community House, together with the Community Kitchen Café volunteers, is holding an event as part of the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser. Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and perhaps you would like to participate in this event with others from the community to raise awareness and much needed funds for further cancer research.

Mapping the Community Project

Duke Street Community House has embarked on an exciting new project to map our community needs and look at what are the gaps in community service provision. To do this we have employed two consultants who will conduct a number of focus groups, survey our local community leaders and report back to the committee with recommendations about our future directions.

New Resources for ESL learners

Angliss Neighbourhood House and Yarraville Community Centre have developed some interesting and useful resources for ESL learners.

Looking outside the Square provides a huge list of available resources, as well as numerous of activities, units of work, games and information on a PD session run for teachers. The resources were developed in response to feedback from teachers who indicated that there was a scarcity of relevant and affordable learning materials and resources for pre-literate students.

Angliss Neighbourhood House Receives Investing in Community Education and Training Funding

Angliss Neighbourhood House was successful in their application to the Investing in Community Education and Training (ICET) funding deed under the Teaching and Learning Capital Fund (TLCF) for Vocational Education and Training (VET).

The Angliss Neighbourhood House is located in a public housing estate situated in Footscray within the City of Maribyrnong.The estate has few services and a high level of socio-economic disadvantage as indicated by the socio-economic disadvantage index of 827.

A welcome addition to the Yarraville Community Centre refurbishment program

The Yarraville Community Centre building fund has now been expanded with the announcement of $838,000 funding as part of the Investing in Community Education and Training program.

The funding will enable Yarraville Community Centre to fully complete the restoration and refurbishment program, and involves training rooms, Information Technology, kitchen fit-outs, disability access, installation of solar panels, double glazing, signage and recognition ceremony.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Looking for Mentors

I am a Mentoring Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters Melbourne which is a youth mentoring not-for-profit agency.
